An in-depth look at one of the oldest, largest and most loved RV membership organizations in the world

Escapees RV Club is one of the oldest, largest and most loved RV membership organizations in the world. It’s an RV club that offers its members discounts, education opportunities and community support. Their goal for the community is to become a total support network for all RVers.

Escapees RV Club was founded in 1978 by Joe and Kay Peterson, a husband-and-wife team who were travelling with their children when the idea struck. The goal was to help full-time RVers keep in touch with others like them.

Today, the Club has grown into one of the largest and most active RVing communities in the world, with more than 60,000 members.

Benefits

Most comprehensive parking options in the RV industry

Being an Escapee unlocks a multitude of discounted prices at hundreds of RV parks across the continent. Using the Escapees parking program, members can stay at Rainbow Parks with a choice of short term, monthly, or long term leases, as well as deeded lots. You can also stay at an SKP Co-Op Park, which are kind of like Rainbow Parks except they’re run by fellow Escapees.

Largest mail forwarding service in the US

Escapees RV Club operates the largest private mail service in the US. The Escapees Mail Service guarantees that your mail finds you on the road. Because of its convenience and reliability, many members have found the service invaluable to their RV lifestyle.

Quick and easy domicile change

There are certain regulations in place that make it hard for full-timers to just hit the road and stay there. Because of these complications, many full-time RVers find themselves facing unique legal challenges. ESCAPEES:HOME, a domicile service by Escapees, makes it possible for you to choose a state of domicile that fits your needs, quick and easy.

Hands-on & online RV education programs

Escapees RV Club offers members a plethora of educational resources about the RV lifestyle. There’s a magazine, hands-on boot camps, online courses, and more. These services are led by people with decades of RVing experience, so whether you’re an RV newbie or a decade-old full-timer, you can always learn something new.

Strong sense of inclusion in a like-minded community

The best thing about being an Escapee is the community. The membership grants you access to all community events, plus there are various groups you can join depending on your personal interests. If you like woodcarving, there’s a BOF for that. If you’re of working age and want to hang out with people in your age group, you can become an Xscaper.

24/7 roadside assistance

If you’re from the US or Canada, you can avail the Escapees Roadside Assistance program for a small additional fee. To make this program possible, the Club has partnered with Saferide Motor Club, which has fastest and most dependable roadside assistance coupled with the lowest claims costs in the market. Subscribing to this program entitles you to towing service, lockout service, technical assistance, fuel delivery, and more.

Earn money as you travel

Employment always seems to be a problem with full-timers, and understandably so. Because of this, Escapees has made it a point to help its members connect with people in similar industries. If you need a job, the RVer Job Exchange can connect you with someone who’s hiring. And if you’re hiring, they can connect you with RVers looking for work. Never worry about employment again.

A club that will fight for your rights

Escapees RV Club has been taking the lead in protecting full-time RVers rights for over 20 years. Because of their RV advocacy, full-timers get to vote, park overnight in places other than commercial campgrounds, avoid paying unfair RV-specific taxes, and so much more.

Best Services to Use With Escapees RV Club

logo-getupside.png

GetUpside: Save Money On Gas

Depending on the size of your RV’s fuel tank, it can cost anywhere from $60-$600 to fill up the tank of an RV with gas.

To save money on gas during your trip, we recommend downloading the GetUpside app. By using the app, you can save as much as 25¢ per gallon of gas at major gas stations all around the U.S.

Click here to download the GetUpside app and get $10 worth of gas for free. Or download the GetUpside app manually in your phone’s app store (Google | iPhone) and then enter our promo code, CN3B5 to get the $10 bonus.

Harvest Hosts: Stay Overnight At Wonderful Locations

logo-harvest-hosts.jpg

If you’re trying to make the most out of your RV journey, we definitely recommend Harvest Hosts. It’s a fantastic app that lets you access thousands of free overnight stays at beautiful public locations across the US.

The first thing you’ll be doing after getting your RV is looking for places to visit. With Harvest Hosts, you not only find some awesome places to park your RV, but you also discover hidden gems you never knew were right next to you.

Harvest Hosts helped us make the most of our rental RV, and we highly recommend you try it out.

Boondockers Welcome: Settle Down With The Locals In The Comfort Of Your RV

logo-boondockers-welcome.png

Another app we’re super fond of is Boondockers Welcome. It’s sort of like Harvest Hosts in that it lets you look for locations to park your RV for free.

The difference here is that Boondockers Welcome lets you park on private properties instead. It gives you access to over 2,000 host locations all over the US, where you can park free of charge.

At the onset, Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome look identical, but we’re members of both, and we’ve personally found it best to subscribe to both.

With Harvest Hosts, you get access to public properties. Boondockers Welcome, on the other hand, gives you access to a community of RVers who will personally welcome you and your rig into the comfort of their homes, where you can settle down and recharge for the next trip.

The Dyrt: The Largest Database of Campgrounds

The Dyrt is a free app available on both Android and iOS that you can use to access the largest database of campgrounds. No matter what type of camper you are, you can use The Dyrt to find available campgrounds near you.

Upgrading to the PRO version gives you access to features like Trip Planning, Offline Search, and much more, improving your camping experience immensely for a tiny annual fee.

Is Escapees RV Club worth it?

Yes. If you’re a full-timer from America, then definitely go for it. There’s virtually zero downside, but the upsides are incredible.

The maximum amount you will be paying for Escapees’ services is only about $300/yr. That is just $25/mo — a mere tenth of your monthly gas expenses. And it only gets that high if you pay for the mail forwarding service.

For such a low price, you are entitled to a slew of benefits — participation in both the Escapees and Xscapers communities, access to all the support services, educational resources, and discount programs.

For people outside of the US, it all comes down to your needs. You may not be able to participate in most of the community events, but a membership will still grant you a wealth of educational resources and a rich online community to interact with.

Tens of thousands of people around the world pay for the membership every year because it gives them the support they need to make RV life easy — and, more importantly, fun. Try it for a year. It’s only $50 out of your pocket.

You just might like it.
