RVshare Locations: Where is RVshare available?
As of this review, it seems RVshare is available only in the US and Canada.
Originally exclusive to the US, RVshare expanded to Canada in November 2017. This expansion also provides Canadian users with insurance as well as bilingual customer support.
Despite knowing this information, we haven’t found any listings in Canada — or any way to look for one there, really. The search widget only ever returns US addresses.
That said, the majority of the listings on the platform are from the US, so it will be easier to look for listings here than anywhere else.
RVshare Fee Structure
RVshare, like any other service, charges a fee for every transaction. The amount you pay that goes to them (instead of to the other party) varies depending on whether you’re an owner or a renter.
Let’s take a close look into the fee structures of both RVshare owners and renters.
Owner Service Fee
There are no “service fees” per se, but RVshare does charge a commission for every booking. This means that listing your RV on RVshare is totally free. They only take a cut when a booking is successfully completed.
They charge a Commission on each Booking, which is a percentage of the rental price and fees. The commission is used to cover the cost of the site and pay their employees.
The commission rate for each owner is based on many factors, so we unfortunately can’t give you a solid number.
Generally, though, the commission rate is about 25%.
They also charge Post-Trip Fees, which is a 10% commission on all overages and fees that are reported after a trip. This excludes things like tolls, traffic violations, and damages.
Renter Service Fee
Renters pay fees as well. The Service Fee for renters is a percentage of the total amount of the reservation, excluding taxes and refundable fees. The rate of this fee varies from time to time.
What you’ll be paying for, besides site upkeep, is mostly the Roadside Assistance feature, so make sure you use it when you need it — you’re paying for it either way.
Apart from the Service Fee, there are also exist Other Fees that a renter may incur depending on the situation:

Refueling Fee
Abandonment Fee
You may incur these fees depending on which amenities you avail (or decide not to). If you decide to return an RV without first cleaning it, the owner can charge you a Cleaning Fee after the fact.
This goes as well for dumping waste tanks. If the renter doesn’t do this prior to returning the RV, then the owner can charge a Dumping Fee.
It’s important to know about these kinds of fees prior to booking any rentals. You might be surprised at how many fees you incur after a rental if you don’t clear these up with the owners. So if you’re not sure, just ask the owner.
Handling Payments Outside of RVshare
Some users will ask you to submit payment outside of RVshare.
One word — don’t.
One of the key reasons RVshare is such a valuable service is that they provide renters and RV owners a secure way to do business with each other.
They use Stripe, a payment processing platform that’s on the same level of security as PayPal. Because of them, you can stop worrying about getting scammed and losing money.
But by handling payments outside of RVshare, you reject the security that the platform gives you in favor of saving a few bucks.
You also put yourself at a much higher risk of getting scammed — and no one will be there to have your back.
We recommend handling all payments within the platform. You’ll be paying a bit more, but this way, your money is safe and you’re getting the service you deserve.

In this section, we’ll walk you through the entire process of renting an RV on RVshare, from start to finish. At the end of each section, we’ll tell you our thoughts.

On the search widget, these vehicles are divided into Drivable RVs (Class A, B, and C RVs) and Towable RVs (everything else). The make and model of each vehicle you’ll find depends on which ones the owners in your area have.
Browsing
To search for a listing, you can use the search widget on the homepage or go straight to the search page to enter a more detailed query.
Here’s what the search page looks like:
RVshare Browsing: If you aren’t committed to RVshare yet and just want to see whether there’s a listing in your area, you can still look up listings without an account.
On the left you’ll Listing Cards that show the make and model of the vehicle, its rating, location, maximum sleeps, and cost per night. You can click these cards to view the full listing details and scroll down to see more listings.
On the right you’ll see an Interactive Map Widget. You can click and drag the map widget to move around and see listings in the area you’ve specified. You can click the price tags to see a few details about that listing, then click the details to see the full listing.
You’ll notice a row of buttons above the listings:
RVshare Browsing: To find the absolute best deal on your RV rental, take advantage of the Search Filters.
These are the Search Filters. By clicking on these buttons, you can modify your filters and get only relevant results. You can specify things like vehicle type, cancellation type, and even amenities and rules, such as whether they have a fridge or allow pets.
Once you’ve narrowed down your options, just click a listing you like.

Overall, we found the search widget to be satisfactory. They could improve it by indicating how many listings are within a certain price range. We also find the map widget a bit lacking. You should be able to see new listings pop up as you move the map, but that just doesn’t happen.
But it’s okay overall. It does its job. If you’re really specific with your filters, you can find a relevant listing in less than 5 minutes.
Booking
Before booking a rental, you first need to create a renter’s account. With your renter’s account, you can only rent vehicles. If you want to rent out your own vehicle as well, a separate account is required.
Here are the requirements for booking an RV:
At least 25 years old
At least 3 years of driving history
Valid driver’s license
Passed DMV check
Once you’ve chosen a relevant listing and looked over the full details, you can begin the booking process.
RVshare Booking: You can ask the RV owner a question by clicking the link under the Book button.
On the listing page, you’ll see a widget where you can enter your Booking Date and desired number of Sleeps. It tells you the Total Cost of your booking, along with Taxes and Fees, as well as the availability of your chosen dates.
You’ll be taken to the booking page where you’ll be asked a few basic details and some info about your trip (for the owner’s information). You’ll also be asked to select from the 3 insurance packages (which we’ll talk about below).
Once you’ve successfully filled out the booking form, all you have to do is enter your payment information, click Confirm & Pay, and you’re good to go.
Our Experience
We booked some time back in 2019. Their userbase has grown much bigger since then, especially since coronavirus hit.
Back then, customer service was a bit frustrating to deal with. We had to wait an hour (and sometimes upwards of that) just to talk to an agent. Thankfully, the agent we talked to was very knowledgeable, so our problem was solved immediately.
The rental went smoothly, too. The owner was very punctual and respectful, and we got the vehicle in great shape. Overall, we were happy with our RVshare experience. Very few gripes, and nothing major, too.
Really, our only problem was the long wait time on customer service. But based on recent reviews of the platform, it looks like customer service has improved as well. Good for them!
Rental Agreement
Before you book a rental, we recommend reading the Rental Agreement first. It’s a short, 5-minute read that tells you important things like Insurance Policy Terms, Prohibited Uses, Reporting to Police, Charges and Costs, etc.
Failure to comply with the agreement will put you in a very bad position. It’s not long at all and will help keep you out of trouble.
Tips for Renters
Read everything
If you want to have a good experience, it will be in your best interest to read everything on the listing.
Take note of which amenities, insurance package, and cancellation policy a listing has. All the information you’ll need will likely be on the listing, so read up and steer clear of trouble.
Common sense is not common sense
If an owner gives you a small manual or guide for their vehicle — read it! RVs are nothing like your average car. A lot of things that seem like common sense are not. You don’t want to learn this the hard way.
When you get into your first RV, you will get overwhelmed with all the systems. Just 30 minutes of reading will go a long way into making sure you have fun and don’t break anything expensive.
Clear things up
Once you’ve done your due diligence of understanding the entirety of a listing, it’s time to clear things up with the owner. Don’t be afraid to dig deep into the specifics.
Ask about check-in and checkout times, extra fees, how long it will take to get your security deposit back, what's included in the rental, what isn’t, payment schedule, etc.
If these aren’t addressed up-front, ask for a written addendum to the contract.

It’s nothing big, but we definitely think that it makes renting on RVshare more worth it. If you’re always renting RVs, this helps a bit with saving some cash.
Worry-Free Rental Guarantee
Another cool benefit that renters get when renting through RVshare is the Worry-Free Rental Guarantee.
Basically, it protects renters from things like:
Listing fraud
Misleading RV listings
Unsafe/unsanitary RVs
Wrongful withholding of security deposit

All you have to do to file a Worry-Free Rental Guarantee claim is contact Customer Support within 30 days of the incident (or within 12 hours of pickup if the RV rented was not as advertised or unavailable).
We think it’s great that RVshare has something like this in place. It encourages both owners and renters to play by the rules and respect the other party.
24/7 Roadside Assistance
Another benefit of using RVshare is the fact that they offer 24/7 Roadside Assistance. They use a third-party company called Nation Safe Drivers.
All you have to do to avail Roadside Assistance is call their 24/7 support phone number or email their 24/7 support email address. After you successfully book a rental, you’ll get these details for free in an email they send you.
Here’s what’s included in the service, along with a short explanation of each one:
Towing Service: NSD will dispatch a provider to tow the RV to the nearest service location or owner’s home within 100 miles
Tire Service: NSD will dispatch a provider to change the inflated spare from mount to wheel
Battery Service: NSD will dispatch a provider equipped to boost batteries and perform minor repairs
Lockout Service
Extraction and Winching
Delivery of Supplies: NSD will dispatch a provider to deliver supplies (gasoline, oil, water, or other necessary supplies)
Travel, Theme Parks, and Automotive Discounts
When you’re in a pinch, this service is fantastic. You can pull over at 2AM in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire and no gas, and someone will come by and help you out with everything.
These things happen, too — and, oftentimes, when you least expect it. So it’s good to know that RVshare has your back.
RVshare Rental Insurance
Last, but definitely not the least, is RVshare’s Rental Insurance Program.
The thing is, no matter how careful you are, accidents do happen. Thankfully, with RVshare’s Rental Insurance, you won’t have to worry about that.
RVshare’s Rental Insurance includes up to $1M in Liability Coverage, up to $200,000 in Comprehensive & Collision Coverage, as well as the aforementioned 24/7 Roadside Assistance.
In terms of RV insurance, $200,000 in comprehensive coverage is more than enough.
It’s definitely not as big as Outdoorsy’s $1M, but it’s just as good. $200,000 is big enough to cover any damages that could come your way.
In the following sections, we’ll check out their 3 protection packages as well as which vehicles and incidents are covered by their Rental Insurance.
Protection Packages
RVshare has 3 protection packages: Standard, Enhanced, and Premier. They mainly differ in price and coverage.
RVshare Rental Insurance: The renter chooses and pays for the protection package during the booking process.
During the booking process the renter chooses a package for their trip. The cost is then added to their booking subtotal, which means these packages are free for RV owners and paid for by RV renters.
The coverage depends on what type of RV is being rented. On RVshare, RVs are separated into Towable RVs and Drivable RVs.

Covered Vehicles
To qualify for RVshare Rental Insurance, your vehicle must be 15 years old or newer, with a stated value of $200,000 or less. A motorhome that is older than 15 years will only be covered by liability coverage.
Now, we mentioned how RVshare classifies RVs into 2 categories: Towable RVs and Drivable RVs. This is important to note since the insurance coverage for each category is different.

Covered Incidents
RVshare Rental Insurance: Incidents covered by RVshare’s Rental Insurance
RVshare prides their Rental Insurance in having “the most complete coverage on the market”.
In addition to basic comprehensive and collision, RVshare’s Rental Insurance also protects vehicles from: fires, lightnings, explosions, theft, windstorms, hailstorms, earthquakes, floods, vandalism, and snow or ice.
And that’s it. Their insurance coverage is pretty good and should cover anything that could possibly happen to your vehicle.
The only thing we find kind of weird is that their insurance partner is never really mentioned in their website copy. That information would be very helpful.
But we did some digging (for your sake and ours) and it looks like they’re partnered with National General Insurance Group of Companies, which is a trusted auto insurance company with an A+ rating on Better Business Bureau.
Cancellations
Sometimes users have to cancel abruptly, and this can be very troubling for the other party.
Renters might book a reservation and cancel it right before the trip. This wastes the RV owner’s time since they will have missed out on actual rental opportunities.
On the flip side, an owner might cancel a renter’s reservation — sometimes out of nowhere — even when it’s been booked months in advance, leaving the renter with a spoiled vacation and a bad mood.
To save its users from these inconveniences, RVshare has cancellation policies to protect not only owners, but renters as well.
Let’s take a close look at these cancellation policies.
Cancellation Policy for Renters
To protect owners from sudden cancellations, RVshare gives them 3 cancellation policies to choose from when they create their listing.
We’ll show you a summary for each one and a long version after.
1. Flexible
Renter may receive a full refund of money minus the RVshare service fee collected up to 30 days before rental, 50% refund of money minus the RVshare service fee collected within 30 days of rental.
Long version: Renters are entitled to a full refund, less the RVshare service fee, for all cancellations made at least 30 days prior to the rental start date. Renters are entitled to a 50% refund, less the RVshare service fee, for all cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the rental start date. A 24-hour cancellation grace period is given to all bookings made at least 7 days prior to the rental start date. For all bookings made within 7 days of the rental start date, a 1-hour cancellation grace period is given. If a booking is cancelled during a grace period, a full refund including the RVshare service fee will be granted. Once the rental commences, the booking is non-refundable.
2. Standard
Renter may receive a full refund of money minus the RVshare service fee collected up to 30 days before rental, 50% refund of money minus the RVshare service fee collected within 30 - 14 days of rental, no refund within 14 days of rental.
Long version: Renters are entitled to a full refund, less the RVshare service fee, for all cancellations made at least 30 days prior to the rental start date. Renters are entitled to a 50% refund, less the RVshare service fee, for all cancellations made at least 14 days prior to the rental start date. Less than 14 days prior to the rental start date, the booking is non-refundable. A 24-hour cancellation grace period is given to all bookings made at least 7 days prior to the rental start date. For all bookings made within 7 days of the rental start date, a 1-hour grace period is given. If a booking is cancelled during a grace period, a full refund including the RVshare service fee will be granted.
3. Strict
Renter may receive a full refund of money minus the RVshare service fee collected up to 30 days before rental, no refund within 30 days of rental.
Long version: Renters are entitled to a full refund, less the RVshare service fee, for all cancellations made at least 30 days prior to the rental start date. Less than 30 days prior to the rental start date, the booking is non-refundable. A 24-hour cancellation grace period is given to all bookings made at least 7 days prior to the rental start date. For all bookings made within 7 days of the rental start date, a 1-hour grace period is given. If a booking is cancelled during a grace period, a full refund including the RVshare service fee will be granted.
The names are pretty self-explanatory, but here’s the gist of it:
Flexible means you’re okay with abrupt cancellations
Strict means you totally aren’t
Standard means you’re somewhere in between
Flexible is definitely better for your marketing, but Strict will make sure your time isn’t wasted. Standard will give you a balance between protection and marketability.
Cancellation Policy for Owners
RVshare protects renters from owner cancellation as well. If an owner cancels a renter’s reservation for any reason, the renter gets a full refund.

Another app we’re super fond of is Boondockers Welcome. It’s sort of like Harvest Hosts in that it lets you look for locations to park your RV for free.
The difference here is that Boondockers Welcome lets you park on private properties instead. It gives you access to over 2,000 host locations all over the US, where you can park free of charge.
At the onset, Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome look identical, but we’re members of both, and we’ve personally found it best to subscribe to both.
With Harvest Hosts, you get access to public properties. Boondockers Welcome, on the other hand, gives you access to a community of RVers who will personally welcome you and your rig into the comfort of their homes, where you can settle down and recharge for the next trip.
Outdoorsy: The Largest RV Rental Marketplace in the World

Most of the owners on RVshare are experienced RVers who want to rent out their vehicle to cover its cost. For renters, this means that you can always ask them for some solid RVing advice. They usually know where the best parking spots and destinations are. We’ve also found owners to be very friendly and helpful in general, even when we decided not to push through with our bookings.
Knowledgeable support agents
RVshare’s support agents are extremely helpful for when you’re in a pinch. They’re trained and knowledgeable, which means all it takes is a single call to solve your concerns.
Generate steady passive income
You don’t have to work so hard for your RV. With RVshare, you can make it work for you. By listing your RV (or RVs), you can cover the cost of your RV. RV owners on RVshare earn up to $40,000 per year on average. A renter gets to enjoy the outdoors with your vehicle, and you get to make money. Double win!
It’s free to list your RV
There are no fees to list your RV. Just sign up, log in, and complete your listing. Easy as that. You only pay the service fees when a booking is confirmed.
Secure payments and payment protection
RVshare uses Stripe for safer payment processing, which is about the same as PayPal in terms of security. They also have a Worry-Free Rental Guarantee, which helps renters out in case something goes wrong with a rental. Of course, this only applies if you pay directly through RVshare. Payments done outside of RVshare are not only unsafe, but also prohibited. To make sure your transactions are safe, pay through RVshare only.

The web app is a bit frustrating in that you can’t use just one account to both rent and own — you need a separate account for each one. The search widget could also use some quality of life improvements. Things like an indicator for how many vehicles there are in a certain price range and a more interactive map widget.

When it comes to handling your rental business on RVshare, it’s important to remember that it’s your business — not RVshare’s. RVshare is only a middleman. You’ll be in charge of liaising with your own customers and managing and marketing your own vehicle. RVshare is only there so you can list your RV, make secure transactions, and get help from customer service when you need it. Otherwise, you get what you give.
Limited options
The platform is still growing, so you won’t be able to use RVshare anywhere you want. As of now, RVshare is only available in the USA. It’s a bummer, too, since RVing is popular in places like Europe and Australia as well. But if you’re from the US, you’ll be fine. There are currently 60,000+ active listings in almost every corner of America.
Owner or renter: pick one
We found this very frustrating and we really didn’t understand why you can’t be both at the same time. We signed up as renters, naturally. But, for the sake of this review, we wanted to check out the owner side as well. To our dismay, there was no option at all to see the owner dashboard as a renter account. Either you pick one or you make 2 separate accounts.
Kind of expensive
The commission rate for RV owners on RVshare is about 25%, which we think is a bit high. If this rental business is going to be your main gig, you can’t expect to make much money unless you list dozens of RVs. But it is great if all you need is a way to drive down expenses. And the commission is used reasonably for things like customer service and site upkeep, so not a penny goes to waste.
Strict owners
Now, this isn’t really a con, but more of a reminder for future renters. Some owners have long lists of rules for you to follow while using their vehicle, and they can be very strict with where you can go and what you can do, which is understandable. People invest a lot of time and money into building their rigs, so it’s okay if they want to protect them. So if you’re renting, just spend a bit more time looking for listings that fit your needs.
Lots of fine print
On most websites, you can get away with scrolling through the bottom and checking a tiny box that says, “I’ve read the terms and conditions”, but with RVshare, doing that does you more harm than good. We’re not saying that RVshare’s T&Cs are sketchy; what we’re saying is, there are some very specific conditions that you need to know to get the best out of the service. Reading through the fine print will save you a ton of time and money in the long run.

Is RVshare worth it?
Yes! We highly recommend RVshare to both owners and renters.
For renters, RVshare makes the browsing process infinitely easier and more streamlined. Without RVshare, we can see ourselves easily wasting 4-5 hours looking for the right listing — and we might not even find one then.
The search filters (though they could be improved) help a lot with narrowing down search results, giving you only the listings that fit your needs.
The customer service is great as well. Their support agents are knowledgeable with just about anything you can throw at them. Plus, it’s great to know that you can call their Roadside Assistance team at any time of the day if you’re ever in a pinch.
On the owner side, we genuinely think you should list your RV here. Even if you’re already listed on sites like Outdoorsy, the extra exposure will help you cover more ground and make much more business.
They may not have “industry-leading insurance protection” (that title goes to Outdoorsy), but their insurance program is great as well. It’s certainly enough for any RV issues that might come your way.
Overall, we give RVshare 4 out of 5 stars. The platform is (believe it or not) still in its early stages. They still have a lot of room to grow, but where they are now is undeniably impressive. And we’ll definitely use them again.

We’ve tried both services, and we like both. However, we do recommend RVshare more for people who rent a lot. RVshare has a Cashback Loyalty Program which saves you a lot of cash if you’re always renting anyway.
Outdoorsy’s edge is its massive userbase and industry-leading insurance. They cover up to $1 million, which is 5 times as much as RVshare’s coverage of up to $200,000 only. Most losses never really exceed this amount, but if you have to pick one and want to be extra safe, Outdoorsy is the way to go.
If you’re an RV owner, we definitely recommend using both. Listing your RV on both platforms gives you a larger number of potential customers. Some people will only use one platform, so if you’re only listing on Outdoorsy, you’ll miss the renters on RVshare! Don’t limit yourself — list your RV on both.

Just by looking at their Trustpilot profile, you’ll get a good idea of the quality and consistency of their services. You’ll still see the occasional bad review, but their high approval rating of 89% speaks for itself.
Can you make money with RVshare?
You definitely can. Most RV owners on RVshare use the service to cover the cost of their RV. On average, RV owners make anywhere from $5,000 to $40,000 a year in extra income.
For a small cut, RVshare takes care of all the administrative stuff like payment transaction, insurance, and customer service. All you have to do now is liaise with renters and make sure they get the vehicle on time.
If you want to make your RVshare rental business into a full-time thing, then you’ll need more than just your main vehicle — you’ll need a few. By multiplying your supposedly small income source, you increase your income generation. Doing that, you could probably sustain yourself on just RVshare.
